Ruia mai is New
Zealand's leading Mãori language broadcaster. Since it's launch in May 1996,
the Ngãti Whatua owned station has consolidated its place in radio history
with the delivery of the first ever 100 per cent Mãori language broadcast.
Ruia Mai supports the preservation and protection of the Mãori language and
culture through the production of outstanding quality news, current affairs,
sport, education, youth and music shows. Seven days a week, our team of
producers, reporters and
presenters in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch generate more than 40
hours of programming for the national network of Iwi radio stations.
Ruia Mai has its
own frequency in Tamaki Makau Rau - 1179AM. The success of Ruia Mai is
evidence that Mãori language and
culture can be retained, promoted, enhanced and made commercially successful.
